My working career has been an interesting journey that has shaped me into who I am today. I am very much a people-person and feel that an important aspect of my role is to educate individuals and practices to have a better understanding of their roles within their organisation. I have chosen to specialise in the field of trust accounts which would then include Phase 2 firms such as lawyers, accounting practices and real estate agents.
I worked as an external auditor and accounting in the Chartered Accounting environments in South Africa as well as New Zealand. Other roles have included corporate accountant, management accountant, financial and admin manager, financial manager, to name a few! I have been responsible for the full financial and administrative function, internal auditor including ISO-compliance, OHS compliance and document control.
I have been trained across diverse fields of finance from day-to-day processing (bookkeeping) to budgeting, forecasting, cashflows, group financial reporting, capex plans.
I always strive to deliver a high quality of work and consider my skills and knowledge to be extensive.
My attention to detail and great communication skills together with knowledge and expertise in the accounting field, make me a valuable asset. Add to this my experience on a wide range of software programmes including, but not limited to:

- Infinity, etc
My recent role as a Senior Trust Account Inspector and Investigator for the NZ Law Society provided me with the perfect opportunity to further my career as a trust account consultant and AML/CFT auditor.
Who is Lee-Ann van Heerden?
I migrated to New Zealand from South Africa in 2008 and lived in Whangarei up until April 2014 before moving to the beautiful City of Sailes (Auckland).
I live with my partner, son, and step-children in Westgate, West Auckland, on a bit of land where we have horses and sheep.
I am passionate about horses and started riding at a very young age. When I am not spending time with my horses, I am tiki touring around the North Island with my partner. We love cycling and tramping.

I have an amazing background starting off my career at Chartered Accounting (CA) firms (including PwC) which was followed by various roles in the fields of commercial, industrial, manufacturing and agricultural, filling various finance roles. I migrated to NZ in 2008 and worked in a great CA firm in Whangarei for five years before moving to Auckland and working for William Buck. I joined the NZ Law Society in 2015 where I remained until December 2019.
The roles I have been employed in have often had a focus on investigations, auditing, management consulting and as you can imagine, I have a keen eye for detail and a strong focus on compliance.
I am very approachable and a real people’s person. I am passionate about working alongside individuals with a strong focus on education and guidance.
My Experience
Solid auditing and accounting background covering sectors such as legal, financial, manufacturing, agriculture, exporting, shipping etc.
I have a thorough working knowledge (and experience) in the day-to-day running of practices/firms in everything financial and business including payroll, capex, HR, administration etc.
I was fortunate enough, during my working career, to be exposed to many different environments and cultures.
I joined the NZ Law Society in July 2015 as a Trust Account Inspector and Investigator where I remained until December 2019. I contracted to a law firm for 2 months after that as Senior Trust Accountant.
I started up Compliance Consulting in February 2020 and will be assisting practitioners and firms throughout New Zealand.
